There is closed caption (CC) in several movie theaters in major cities. We are thankful for these and hopefully this is only the beginning. What a simple joy for a deaf person to go to the movie theater (big movies as my children called them when they were young), eat popcorn and goobers or raisinettes, hold hands with their boyfriend or girl friend or loved one and just enjoy watching a movie on the big screen. So much is taken for granted. Most of us can do this anytime that we want.
I have written our congressman concerning CC in the movie theaters. There are currently only CC movie theaters in Atlanta. There are no other CC movie theaters in Georgia. I encourage you to write your congressman also.
We are so thankful for the beginning of CC in movie theaters and look forward to many more. When you have the opportunity, please support this simple pleasure for people who are deaf. Please continue to "listen and hear with your heart".

We have to support close caption at the movie threatre. Can you imagine being so excited about going to the movie threatre on a Saturday night. You have been waiting all week to be able to go out to the movie. When you arrive the first stop is popcorn and a large coke at the concession stand. You enter the room to see many people with great smiles on their faces. Some people are alone and many have boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, wife,
ReplyDeletechildren, significant others, and family. You find the most perfect seat where you can see the screen clearly. Finally the large curtain is drawn back and the movie begins but with .....no sound. This could be a very disturbing sight but it was not with my niece. My niece is deaf and this did happen but she is such a graceful individual she continued to smile throughout the entire movie. I was saddened by this incident. How can we let this happen? She should be able to enjoy the movie just like anyone else by understanding with the communication needed in order to understand what is happening. Please do not this happen to another child. Let them enjoy a Saturday night at the movie like we all do . It is their right and lets treat them with respect and dignity.
Little Sis,
ReplyDeleteJust as soon as I retire, we are going to DC to lobby for CC in movie theaters. We do have a few and that is a start, but we need many more. We need at least one in each city or town. Please "listen and hear with your heart, Movie Land!
